Personality: Before Mary arrived at Misselthwaite, she was a stubborn, spoiled, unloved and unloving girl. However, because of her experiences at Misselthwaite, she has developed into a kind, loving girl full of spirit and adventure. She loves gardens and gardening, as well as animals.

History: Mary had lived in India all of her life. However, after a cholera epidemic claimed her parents, she was sent to Yorkshire, England to live with her uncle. Whilst there, she befriended Martha Sowerby; a maid, Dickon Sowerby; Martha's brother, and Colin Craven; her cousin. She discovered a garden that belonged to her late aunt, which was locked up due to Lord Craven's grief. She found the key to unlock it, and, with the help of Dickon and Colin, brought it back to life. It has since been reopened for everyone, although it is still called "The Secret Garden".
